The “new normal” has forced us to expedite the technological innovation in schooling. Academia de Lipa has designed its Online Learning Program (OLP), to be implemented in a matter where students and teachers learn more and thrive together online.

A Hybrid online Learning MODEL

The Online Learning Program (OLP) to be implemented this School Year 2021-2022 provides a unique opportunity for this batch of ADL students and teachers: we will become part of a generation that is experimenting with new technology, and therefore has the responsibility to understand its limitations and possibilities.

Our Online Learning Platforms

Each learner enrolled in ADL for SY 2021-2022 will gain access to the level-applicable specialized learning platforms below. Teachers can monitor student progress and enhance the online schooling experience with rich content and dynamic activities.

MathScore (K-10)

Developed by MIT graduates since 2003, MathScore helps students acquire a deep understanding of math by providing adaptive math practice that functions like self-guided lessons. MathScore is fun, but the real magic is the improved confidence and grittiness that MathScore instills.

SciLearn (K-6)

Fast ForWord is an evidence-based, adaptive reading and language program that delivers 1-2 years gain in 40-60 hours of use for any struggling learner. Its unique brain-based approach targets the root causes of reading difficulty to deliver lasting results that make better readers and lifelong learners.

WordFlyers (7-10)

WordFlyers has just the right balance of study and fun. Students complete interactive literacy activities to earn points that can be redeemed for travel-related rewards. The international travel theme as well as the competitive nature of the rewards encourage students to complete the units and improve their writing and reading skills.

Nearpod (K-3)

Nearpod is a student engagement platform that creates an inclusive and immersive learning experience by allowing students to actively participate in every lesson. Students can join their teachers in their presentations that can contain engaging activities such as Quizzes, Polls, Videos, Images, Drawing-Boards, Web Content.

G Suite for Education

A suite of tools designed to empower educators and students as they learn and innovate together. With G Suite for Education, educators can create opportunities for learning, streamline administrative tasks, and challenge their students to think critically—all without disrupting current workflows.

Essential Tools

All our online learning platforms are device-agnostic--as long as learners have access to a web browser, they will be able to use the online tools given.

According to the latest available data on the student body-wide survey conducted on Online Learning Readiness, 100% of students have access to at least one internet-connected device, and connect to the internet-powered services regularly. Internet Service Providers offer daily plans for as low as P15 a day.

We have seen our child’s biggest improvement when she started studying online in Academia De Lipa. At six [years old], she learned how to read, write, and even counting / adding big numbers. We're so amazed the kids enjoyed what they are doing; they love the online system -- using Google Forms, NearPod, SciLearn and Koobits. What we loved most is how the students are guided by the teachers, who have shown awareness of their needs, and have given their full support for the kids since the very first day of school. Now, we can see our kids showing more signs of being responsible with their studies. They are always excited to get up and learn new things every day.

Teachers turned out to be the real superheroes for all the students. No child is left unattended: [teachers constantly] send reminders to parents. Teachers put such an immense effort preparing the lessons, imparting the best learning, maintaining discipline and keeping them engaged with various activities, even recognition/awardings, without being physically present.

Support Structures

Contingencies

Education is essential. Stopping schooling for a year can undo learning advancements gained, and is an unrecoverable missed opportunity to further progress. If a student decides not to enroll at Academia de Lipa for SY 2020-2021 (to transfer, to homeschool, or to completely stop schooling), he/she loses access to any scholarships or government subsidies (i.e. Vouchers and ESC), even if the student decides to re-enroll in the succeeding year.

We will not let students who have limitations in the strength of their internet connectivity or the availability of their gadgets be left behind by employing the following measures:

  1. plotting lessons within the physical textbooks and other learning assets deployed to all the students through the COVID-19 support given by the school,
  2. providing sufficient time for students to complete their lessons, and
  3. making available a low-bandwidth version of the live courses (e.g. recordings of lectures) for later consumption.

We understand the challenges families may face as devices and home internet will not be included in the tuition, and may incur families additional expenditures. We will honor our commitment to no increases in tuition or fees, even for increases that are already government-approved. Miscellaneous and other school fees such as laboratory, energy, and publishing fees have been waived and reduced. Learning materials and textbooks are embedded in the annual fees at a minimal cost so that they may be paid for on a semestral or quarterly installment basis. This way, each student will have equitable access to multiple platforms for their different situations.

School Services

The school will implement stringent safety protocols in line with the Department of Health standards for necessary physical reporting to the campus of teachers and staff. Students will not be required to report to school until authorities say otherwise. We will provide the community with regular health updates.

Our guidance counselor will continue to do the regular interview and check-up on students’ psycho-emotional well-being through online channels. Open consultation times will also be available for students with pressing matters. The school’s data privacy policies will cover these online consultations.

Students and Parents can conveniently ask for IT assistance or raise concerns to Department Principals through a dedicated Request for Support module in the ADL Student Portal (support feature launching in July). Department Principals will also make appointment schedules available for consultations.

Student Duties

As students will not see all of their subject teachers physically, they should reach out to teachers concerning lessons and assignments they are having difficulty with by actively participating in live lessons and maximizing their teachers’ consultation appointments.

Most academic requirements will not be proctored. This means that teachers will be relying that students will stringently abide by the honesty code. The teachers’ online evaluations and assessments only aim to measure and work on student understanding. Students will be giving up their opportunity to be helped if they feign their abilities.

New or enhanced provisions will be set up in the student manual detailing on online routines (including attendance and punctuality), dress code for live classes, data privacy, cyber behavior and anti-cyberbullying, and other relevant items relating to educational technology. These will be discussed in detail during Orientation week.

Support from Parents

Students will find the transition to online learning much more seamless with equipment (See Essential Tools Section), and a dedicated, quiet space conducive to learning.

For younger children (i.e. Kinder to Grade 2), adult supervision is necessary in terms of helping students establish a routine, advance lesson objectives, and perform simple troubleshooting. For older children, adult supervision must be minimal, since students are expected to assume greater responsibility and independence towards their learning.

For Quarterly or Semestral Examinations, parents are requested to help teachers proctor their children while answering these assessments online. The week’s schedule may be shifted once a quarter to accommodate parents’ work schedule. We will roll out the details as we design these assessments.
